Meet the 2017 Filmsupply Challenge Winners

Filmsupply Challenge is quickly becoming one of our favorite events. There’s nothing better than sitting down with a hot cup of coffee and watching 1,000s of short films that completely reinterpret our footage — in the best ways possible. We got to see our filmmakers’ work change shape, color, and even subject matter. It’s proof of the magic of editing. We had the chance to see so much talent on display and so many great entries as a result.

And the best part? We didn’t have to choose who won.

We left that part up to our intrepid panel of (extremely qualified) judges. They had the unenviable task of separating the bizarre from the bad, the good from the great, and ultimately selecting our 8 winners. And after watching all of the entries, it’s safe to say that it was a close call — there was so much great work from our competitors. But the judges panel has spoken. Here are the winning entries for the 2017 Filmsupply Challenge:

Best Overall: Bless the World by Bradley B.K.T. Crawford

Best Title Sequence: Long Way Back by Travis Blake

Best Ad: The All New G-Max Winter Tire by Jacob Stevenson

Best Trailer: Nocturn by Brock Gregor

Best Concept: WATCHED by Alice Gagliardi

Best VFX: Ariminum by Justin Tyler Brown

Best Color: Succubus by Stacey Lewis

Best Sound: Crown Motorcycle: Just by Schalk Willem Theron

Congratulations to all of our 2017 winners! They’re taking home a collective $50,000 in prizes, including an entire editing bay to Mr. Crawford for his awesome work on Bless the World. To watch all of the entries, head over to our Vimeo Channel. As we mentioned before, there were so many great entries this year and, while not every entry can win a prize, here are some submissions that we think are absolutely worth your time:

A couple of our favorite title sequences, Forest Fire and Dead Land, absolutely killed it. As for a great ad, check out LifePlus+. A special shout out to MARS: A New World and Still I Rise as great examples of trailers. And in the ‘hell yeah’ categories, we strongly recommend that you watch Karate Dawn 1989 and Good Life Beer: The Only Beer Without Whale Urine In It (yes, you read that right).

That wraps things up for our 2017 Filmsupply Challenge. Lastly, we’d like to thank our amazing judges for their time and our great sponsors for making these awesome prize packages possible for our winners.
